Possibly Mahfood’s most over-looked and underrated comic book work, KICK DRUM COMIX was a two issue mini-series released in 2008 through Image Comics. The books were beautifully colored by Justin Stewart, Anne Masse, and Shaughn Struble. They were over-sized magazine format and 48 pgs each. The first issue featured two stories, “Death of the PopMaster” and “Coltrane’s Reed” (which later became recognized as one of Mahfood’s most well-written pieces). Issue 2 featured the stories “Brian & Rod: Battle of the Bands, Battle of the Hearts” and “Echo Chambers”.

In 2009, a very special Limited Edition Kick Drum Comix French Collection was in the works with publisher Indeez Urban Editions. A brand-new Popmaster story, “6ft Deep”, was produced, as was a very special Kick Drum-themed Pervert Train photoshoot with model Kat G. The project never saw the light of day.
